they will see us waving from such great heights

- this picture was taken at the top of the volcano haleakala at 5:45 in the morning. to get this picture, we had to leave our hotel at 2am. after viewing the sunrise, we biked 38 miles down the mountain, which was awesome, but would've been cooler if i wasn't so tired and cranky. i was quite a speed-demon, but maybe i wouldn't have been if i had heard that people have died on that route when they ran into oncoming traffic (cue the "debbie downer wa-wa" noise).

- pamela anderson and tommy lee are staying at our hotel with their kids. everyone's stalking them by the pool, but we ran into them by accident when we went to the game room to play shuffleboard. mv had to ask her to move because she was sitting on the table. that was the extent of our interaction with them :)

- mv and i got henna tattoos yesterday (a turtle on the back of my neck, a freehand design on mv's foot) from this crazy guy who moved to hawaii with nothing when he was 19 and lived in a treehouse in the jungle. now he owns several companies and does random stuff like develop sitcoms with warner bros. who knows if we can believe half of the things he said, but at least he was entertaining.

- today, my head exploded. well actually, it just felt like it did when my sister's surfboard slammed into the back of it. we went surfing without our instructors this morning, and i accidentally cut in front of mv, so when she fell, her board shot out and into my head. it was totally my fault though, and i was more upset that we had to prematurely end our surfing trip than by the fact that i had a large gash in my scalp. so, when we leave tomorrow, i'll have some souvenirs from hawaii: my first five stitches! :)
