it's beginning to look a lot like...

this week has been a flurry of activity, but in a great way. on wednesday, my whole family went to see "pick of destiny," which was a little awkward because the movie was a little too vulgar to watch with parents, but it was still fun. thanksgiving day started off at 6am, when we got up to run the turkey trot in centreville, my first 5K. it was all right, i am by no means a runner, but i didn't die. and even just jogging it was enough to justify the feast we consumed later. we had all the normal stuff (capon, mashed potatoes, butternut squash soup, lemon garlic broccoli, stuffing, pumpkin pie...), and everything was delicious as usual. this year, i made sure that the capon was perfectly roasted and that we didn't set off the smoke alarm. good times.
both my sister and i had our high school reunions this weekend (her 10th, my 5th), and we approached them with some trepidation, but they were pretty fun. mine was at a bar in arlington with about 100 people, so i did get to see a lot of old friends, random acquaintances, and some people i didn't really know at all. we were a little shy at the beginning (lisa walked in, looked around, and said, "i need a drink RIGHT NOW."), but the beauty of a reunion is that you can flit around and not feel obligated to stick around in awkward conversations. the whole experience was not as weird as i thought it would be, maybe because it was just like being in high school again. my sister and i both noted that no matter how old you get, when you're back with your classmates, the same rules of high school apply. there are still cliques (one side of the bar was the "popular" group, i didn't even venture over there), people still make fun of others, and there are still some secret crushes. it's nice to see that in some ways, we'll never grow up.
the rest of my time at home has been spent running errands, decorating the house for the holidays, and seeing friends (FINALLY saw vito!). it's good that i'm getting all this stuff in now, since it doesn't look like i'll get to be home for long around christmas. i'm heading back to LA tomorrow, and starting work on wednesday, so my vacation time really is over. hope everyone else had a wonderful thanksgiving!
