so intense

oh my goodness, has it really been two weeks since i last blogged? well, it goes to show you how busy i've been. you try working three jobs and having time for anything else. when i got here three weeks ago, i called every single contact possible in the hopes of getting a job, and it seems to have been overly successful. i've ended up working 50-hour weeks with only one day off on the weekend, but i'm working on a way to cut back and get my life back. but here are how the jobs are looking so far...

1. runner at a post-production house (3 days/week)- this might be one of the crappiest jobs ever (even the other runners admit it), but it's the only one that's paying me. i basically act as a housekeeper/messenger/heavy-lifter/slave. i spend a lot of my time doing dishes, and who knew that grownups could be such slobs? the office is cool, and the people are nice, but the non-stop 11-hour shifts might eventually kill me.

2. animator/graphics person for a documentary (2 days/week)- this one is pretty sweet. i'm interning with these documentary people who are trying to finish a film in five weeks to submit it to sundance. they give me old photos, and i animate them in the style of "the kid stays in the picture." it's a pretty interesting project about jazz, and i'm excited to be able to use my after effects skills, but with the runner job, i have to do most of the work on my spare time.

3. sketch comedy editor (1 day/week)- every other free moment is spent at this startup production company that is trying to create a sketch comedy pilot. i give up my weekends for this, but i did get to go to the beach for the first time yesterday since i'm working today.

and a potential fourth job is doing animation for a show that jake and dan (nstv alums) are trying to put together. so no one can accuse me of not taking advantage of the career opportunities out here. the social opportunities, on the other hand, are on the back-burner for now. i haven't had time to really explore anything, and i think i'm boring/frustrating mer, my social planner. when she tries to get me to go out and hang with her TFA people, i either end up staying home or going with her and falling asleep somewhere (like on the back ledge of a couch after playing trivial pursuit). hopefully i can calm down my life a bit so that i can actually have some fun when northwestern/nstv people arrive!

lots of love to everyone, and hopefully i'll be able to actually catch up with people soon...
