starry-eyed surprise
my parents bought the house in annapolis. so it looks like they'll be moving soon. but not too soon, since apparently it's in the stars that they should keep the great falls house for a while. of course, since vietnamese people are so superstitious, my parents had to consult the fortuneteller during the decision-making process. he said that buying the new house was good, but we should keep the old house for a while, since it's been very lucky for us. and it's true, our family has done really well ever since we moved there. here are some other freakishly correct predictions that he made for the family:
1. this is a good year for both my mom and my sister to buy real estate. little did he know that my sister also just bought an apartment in boulder. he also said that my mom might not be done yet (meaning that they might get a place for me?).
2. he advised that i work hard at finding a job, but he also said that i won't find one on my own. i will hear about opportunities from others (weird, since my one interview came from amanda's recommendation), which means i'll really have to network to get a job.
3. this one hasn't come true yet, but i hope it will... he predicted that i will have a good life. unfortunately for my-van, he said things will be easier for me than they will be for her, but we're not too worried. i have no doubts that her life will be fantastic, but of course i'll help her out if she needs it. and vice-versa.
all this superstition may seem to be crackpot nonsense, but the fortuneteller has proven himself many times in the past. plus, it's fun to believe in things like ESP, and to discover that there could be more to life than the mundane things that we experience everyday.
