in london, one of the funniest things to do when i was just hanging out in meredith and kate's flat was to read the personals in our battered issues of "timeout." the british got really creative with them, and some were a bit freaky (lots of couples looking for an "adventurous" third, people with cats, etc).
speaking of the personals, i was listening to the radio this morning on my way to work and they were talking about the section called "missed connections." usually the situation is that two people randomly met somewhere and then parted ways without exchanging information to stay in contact. and one of the people can't stop thinking about the other, so they put this ad in the "missed connections" section and hope that the other person will see it and contact them. now, i always personally thought that this section was a little creepy ("i saw you at the redskins game through my binoculars. you were wearing a maroon sweatshirt and looked nice. please contact me so that we can finally meet.") and desperate, and futile. but someone called into the radio station and said that actually happened to her and now she's dating the guy who took out the ad. she just happened to come across it. i guess that proves that if it's meant to be, it's meant to be, as my mom would say. so i should just stop worrying about the whole relationship thing. it's driving me insane, but i'll try my best to be optimistic and to believe that someday it will really happen. que sera, sera....
