once again, the weather forecast was wrong and it didn't rain today, so i revisited some favorite museums. i went to the musee rodin, which is such a gorgeous place, filled with fantastic sculptures and surrounded by a fabulous garden. rodin's sculptures all seem very tragic, but he knew the human body so well and could make cold, hard marble look like flesh. i'm so impressed by sculptors, their work is my favorite stuff to look at in museums now.
then i went to the musee d'orsay, which is a beautiful building, but since it used to be the train station, the museum is not organized very well. there are lots of hidden rooms. i walked into this room that i definitely had not been in five years ago, because i would have remembered it. i actually gasped when i came into the room because it was as if it were in a palace. it could have come out of versailles, except that it was filled with sculptures instead of furniture. there are lots of famous paintings there too, including many by monet, cezanne, van gogh, and degas, my personal favorite because of his dancers.
tonight, we finally saw t3 (it was cookie's fifth attempt to see it). i needed a lot of explanation beforehand because i hadn't seen the other two, but it was pretty good. cookie assured me that the first two were better and not as mindless or explosive, so i guess i'll have to add those to my gigantic list of movies to see.
tomorrow it's supposed to rain AGAIN, but we'll see if that happens...
oh, before i forget, here's a story about the origin of hermaphrodites that i learned from a sculpture at the louvre:
hermes and aphrodite had a son, hermaphrodite. i think this nymph or someone was in love with him, but he spurned her, and as a punishment, his body was forever combined with hers.
so they had this beautiful but odd sculpture of an androgynous person with male and female "special parts." it was very intriguing. my favorite pieces in any museum are the ones that deal with greek mythology. i've always liked mythology, ever since we studied it in the fifth grade. i even took a class on it last semester. most people think it's too weird and perverse, but that's what makes it interesting. the greeks really knew how to make up some gripping stories.
ok, i'd better go to bed now. bonne nuit!
