open your eyes

i finally sat down last night to watch some of the episodes of "planet earth" that i recorded. and man, is it fantastic. as cheesy as it sounds, i occasionally teared up at the beauty of it all. the sections about how the filmmakers captured the footage are really fascinating as well. the whole series is just incredible.

i especially love the whole purpose of the series, which is of course to inspire humans to take care of the environment. but unlike "an inconvenient truth" (also an excellent film), which shocks the viewer with horrifying statistics and paints a bleak picture of the earth's future, the creators of "planet earth" wanted to show the beauty that is still here and that is worth saving.

if you haven't already seen the trailers in movie theaters, definitely watch the one on the website. it is the most awe-inspiring piece i have ever seen. no joke. i get chills and goosebumps every time i watch it.
