"why can't you be like lionel richie? HE'S sitting in his seat!"

BIG weekend.

first off, mv came into town for her A CAPPELLA COMPETITION! **jazz hands** meryl, brent, and i came to usc on saturday to support her group in the competition, but that also meant we had to suffer through THREE HOURS of a cappella. i used to like a cappella, but there's only so much a person can take. mv's group was good and not cheesy, but everyone else was SO over the top (backflips?? seriously???). we couldn't believe that there was this whole community of people who are so full of themselves that they think that singing lame versions of other people's songs and doing awkward choreography is cool. and the audience is even weirder and more obsessed. i had to stop brent from laughing too loudly or else the hardcore "trojan men*" fans in front of us would've bitch-slapped him. all in all, it was fun to ridicule everyone, and to see mv sing (which i haven't done in a long time).

so we went from hearing a mediocre justin timberlake medley on saturday to seeing justin timberlake LIVE on sunday! yes, mv and i went to THE GRAMMYS, thanks to our mom and her awesome job. she asked us on thursday if we wanted to go, and we replied, "um...YES," so mv promptly told everyone we know about it, changed her flight out of LA, and bought a couple of dresses for us to wear. the whole thing wasn't as glamorous as it seems, but maybe that's because we were with the rest of the rabble in the nosebleed seats. the only celebrity sightings were from about a mile away. but it was awesome nonetheless.

the musical acts were amazing of course, because they featured many of today's best live performers. the dixie chicks and mary j. blige were the standouts for me, but i was impressed with everyone. performing comes so easily to them. the awards show was just like one big concert, which made the after-party lame in comparison. we got to go to the "official" after-party, which is really just for the commoners. chaka khan performed, but that was pretty much the only celebrity there. it actually was like an awkward wedding reception, where you know no one and the food is bad. oh, and we determined that the theme must have been "asian S&M circus boudoir," so you can imagine how comfortable that was (there were guys in black speedos with fishnet tights and leashes). we stayed for about an hour, ate our food on the floor, then took our gift bags and limped back to the car. the blisters on our feet will serve as a nice reminder of our time at the grammys, at least for the next few days. unfortunately, cameras were prohibited, so we have no photographic evidence that we were ever there. boo.

mv flew back really early this morning, so i'm trying to stay awake at work, which is getting more and more hectic. i don't know when i'll have another weekend off, much less when i'll have one as crazy as this one was. hope you all have had as much fun and excitement as i have!

*by the way, in a cappella world, even unattractive guys are "hot" because they sing. i guess the same goes for the whole music industry. that explains people's obsessions with artists like john mayer and fall out boy.

john mayer is so ugly.

also, since when do camera bans prevent people from bringing them in anyway?! you have to AT LEAST have a photo of you two all dressed up in your new dresses, right?!?!?
