"YOU ARE THE MURDERER AND THE THIEF."

we had such a crazy, nerdy, intense, and hilarious night last night!

a couple months ago, ross and meredith found this "how to host a murder mystery" game (probably from the 80s, because one of the parts was a cassette tape) at his uncle's house, and decided to have a murder mystery party. the theme was "1920s mobster chicago," and there were 8 roles to be assigned, which turned out to be pretty perfect, because between the three apartments, there were four girls and four guys. here's how the roles went (note the puns in the names)...

me = molly m. awbsterr: "a flapper from the top of her feather in her hat to the tip of her satin shoes."
chris = earnest g. ambler: "chicago's most colorful millionaire and inveterate gambler"
becky = "silky" m. adam: "a slinky and shady lady who owns and operates the everlay club"
brent = eddie "socks" r. gyle: an avid golfer, "dressed elegantly in plus fours and argyle socks"
meredith = malissa f. orrthot, "scoop": a young reporter vowing to expose every crook in chicago
jake = s. treighton harrow: "u.s. district attorney and chief opponent to the criminal element in chicago"
rachel = anna maria carlotta sassine, "torchy": a singer with "smoldering beauty and a sultry voice"
ross = billy "the kid" thrower: "star pitcher for the chicago stock kings"

the game turned out to be pretty complicated and a little confusing, but it all eventually came out in conversation that everyone had a hand in the murder of hal coppone, chicago's most infamous mobster. and everyone had a shady past. when the truth came out, it turns out everyone had tried to murder coppone, but becky/silky was the only one who succeeded. jake/treighton (who wanted to take over as mob boss of chicago) hired ross/billy to bomb coppone's car, and rachel/torchy (who was a contract killer) to gun him down. both attempts failed. meredith/scoop (who was indebted to coppone but wanted to get out of it) learned how to use a tommy gun from rachel but somehow ended up locked in a crate. brent/socks, chris/ernie, becky/silky, and i were all involved in an elaborate scheme to fake coppone's death and get him out of the country, for a cut of his fortune. but becky actually ended up shooting him and stealing all his money. no one saw that coming.

my role was actually pretty cool, because it turns out that i was a successful bootlegger with chris. apparently "the moll" was awesome, because i was good with a tommy gun, i had a trap door in the bottom of my "packard phaeton," i drove both the getaway car and truck, and could pull (in sergeant kelly's words) "the sweetest little bootlegger's turn i ever did see."

and i had the outfit to match (the one that that's been my default halloween costume for the past five years). of course we all dressed up, and we looked really sweet....

i can't believe we actually did that, because it seems a little odd, but that's the kind of people we are. it was fantastic.
