we're very important people

funny story...

so mv and i are in line to get on the chairlift today, and there's this creepy guy who tries to join us without even asking. so i scoot over and edge him out, because mv and i like having the lift to ourselves, but right before we get to the lift, a snowboarder from the singles line asks to join us. so we're like, "crap," but mv says, "sure." so he and mv chat on the lift (i, as usual, am mute), and it turns out he's pretty cool. he's from north carolina, but he moved out to colorado purely for the love of snowboarding. then he says, "i work at a restaurant - kelly liken," and we're like, "really? we're actually eating there tonight!" so he tells us he works "in the back," but that every night, everyone there gets together for a meeting, so he'll make sure that we're well taken care of during dinner. right before we get off the lift, we exchange names. we're pretty sure his name is gray, or greg, or craig, or something.

we get to the restaurant tonight, and when we pull up, the valet says to my dad, "oh, you must be mr. nguyen." now, that seems a little odd, but this place has great service and keeps all their patrons on file, so it's not totally unusual. they knew we had been there three times before and everything. anyway, we get a pretty nice table, and everyone waiting on us is super-friendly, so we start to think that our friend gray(?) has come through on his promise. then our waiter comes over and asks my sister, "if you don't mind my asking, what are you studying at CU?" they talk about music for a while, and when he leaves, my sister whispers, "i didn't tell him i was going to CU!" so it's obvious that gray has told everyone at kelly liken everything he knows about us. so we feel like we should thank him for everything, but it's a little difficult since we feel awkward, plus we are unsure of his name and we have absolutely no idea what he looks like. when we met him, he was wearing goggles and a helmet ("but he sounded cute," mv says).

right before we leave, my sister tells our waiter, "oh, please tell gray(?) we said hi," and he replies, "i certainly will." then, before we can stop him, he dashes to the back and brings out this kid! so there is horrific awkwardness while we (well, mostly mv) reintroduce ourselves and make small talk before we leave. but mv's suspicions were correct, he was really cute. and it was fun, being treated like VIPs. it goes to show that talking to strangers (especially southern snowboarding ones) can be really beneficial. i should try it myself sometime ;)
