*schwoosh schwoosh*
well, spring break has been fantastic so far. i'm with the fam in colorado, at our place in beaver creek (kind of a hotel/timeshare), and it's gorgeous. there's tons of snow, the weather is perfect (it's warmer than in chicago!), and the trails are so much fun. i hadn't been skiing since junior year of high school, so it took some time to get used to the slopes again, but i'm improving.
our whole family had a private lesson yesterday, and it helped a lot. i probably still look crappy, but whatever. our instructor said to me, "i hope you don't mind my saying so, but you have a tendency to be lazy." i know i do. i have a tendency to be lazy even when i'm doing physical activity. i call it self-preservation/efficiency. i put in the minimum amout of effort required to get things done to avoid pain or injury. when it comes to skiing, i want to get to the bottom of the mountain as quickly as possible, and i don't really care too much about form or technique. as long as i'm having fun, i'm content.
some highlights from our trip so far:
- learning how to ski in powder
- wipeout #1: getting stuck in powder and falling over, ending up with my legs in the side splits
- my dad finally breaking out of his 30 year old bad habits. now he doesn't look like he's sitting in chair when he's skiing.
- wipeout #2: running into a clump of snow
- going through "virgin" unbroken territory with our instructor, then getting to the bottom and looking back at the tracks we made on the mountain
- wipeout #3: going through the woods, gaining too much speed, finding that my path ended in a jump, landing the jump, falling backward, and losing a ski
- dyeing hair with mv in the ritz carlton bathroom and turning the bathtub blue
- our mom slowly colliding with a couple on the slope
- speeding down the mountain with mv without stopping and making it down in less than 5 minutes with our legs on fire
i still have a week left in colorado! plenty of time for more adventures!
