i just finished watching "the dreamers" for my contemporary european cinema class. it is a crazy movie, with messed-up people, but really good. and analytical ideas just started flowing out of my head after i watched it, which has never happened that easily before.
in the past few weeks, i've realized that i really have learned a lot from my rtvf classes. i will never be a cinephile/"film buff," but i know how to appreciate movies/tv now. there are movies that i watched two or three years ago (like "caro diario") that i absolutely hated at the time, but when i'm pressed to watch them again, i can see what makes them complex, artistic, unique, etc. i won't be snobby about it, because i know that there's still a lot that i have to see and learn, but i'm kind of proud of myself for gaining this new-found respect for non-mainstream cinema. good to know that all my tuition money didn't completely go to waste.
