wow, it's been forever since i last blogged, hasn't it? well actually, it's been just over a week since i left good ol' northwestern, but it seems like ages ago. the internet here is soooo slow and aol likes to kick me off all the time. i miss the ethernet! but other than that, i've been having a fantastic time at home in virginia, relaxing for the past week. i've been eating yummy, home-cooked, vietnamese food, sleeping A LOT, and running a few errands. i got to see most of my ya-yas before lisa and meg left to do more exciting things in more exciting places. lisa is in korea, meg is in nyc, and suz is still in spain! everyone else is making up for me staying at home this summer. i can't remember the last time i spent most of the summer at home. but oh well, it's great and very comforting. but i think my rest period is up, since i have to start looking for a job! i've already sent my resume out online, and i'll probably be going to a lot of local stores handing out more, but i don't know if it's very likely that i'll find a job soon. i might just volunteer somewhere to get experience instead of money. but getting both at the same time would be good too :)
so that's about it for me, this has been a pretty uneventful week, besides buying BABY CLOTHES for our cousin who should be here july 5th (eeeeeeee!!!!!), and hearing SIDNEY POITIER give a speech last night at the kennedy center. he's so funny and cool, his life in itself could be a movie. so many of his experiences are so amazing, and most of the things he talked about weren't even about his film career. i hope that when i'm his age (75!), i'll have had as full of a life as he has had, and i hope that i look as good as he does! he made a joke about how we should have noticed how he got down pretty easily to shake hands with this woman from the audience, he's probably in better shape than me. though he said that he had a double chin, i couldn't see anything, and they had his face enlarged on these two huge screens as he was speaking. and he insisted that he wasn't wearing a corset. he really does look wonderful. and he's very intelligent and eloquent. now i just need to see some of his movies to appreciate his acting skills too. oh, and did you know that he was thrown out of two auditions when he was in new york? he finally struck a deal with the theater manager, offering to act as the theater's janitor so that he could take acting classes. he was incredibly determined, though he had no interest in acting until he was thrown out of his first audition, which he only tried out for to earn some money. okay, that's enough gushing. i need to go rent lilies of the field or to sir, with love now. and i need to go to bed to get ready for the job hunt. i hope you all are having good times too!
