so i guess it's about time i gave an update on what happened this weekend!
on saturday, i got up at 5 to fly to new york and meet jamie and kathi james since they drove there. we got to the hotel, then headed straight to times square. we walked around for a bit, and got in the humongous line to get half-price tickets for some broadway show. we waited for about an hour and a half, but when we got to the front of the line, we found that the tickets were still more than we wanted to pay. but we were lucky and got student discount tickets for "42nd street" in the front row! we couldn't see their feet, but it was still great. the dancing was fantastic. and there were about 50 million different costumes, the costume changes must have been extremely hectic. oh, and before the show, we went down to ground zero, which looks pretty much just like a construction site now. they're going to officially end the clean-up work soon. then we went to soho and had dinner in a cute cafe, which made me happy since soho is my favorite part of new york. we fit a lot of stuff in that first day.
on sunday, we went to breakfast at a diner right by the hotel, which was really good. i always seem to get lox, a bagel and cream cheese whenever i'm in nyc. then i went to church for the second time in my life, and we headed to carnegie hall. 40-some singers from jefferson were in the choir conducted by john rutter, and they were wonderful. it was so exciting, going all the way to new york to see them! since we can't make it to spring show or graduation, we thought we would see them in this instead. so we got to see our choir kiddies! i love them!
there was a street festival going on for memorial day weekend, with all these booths selling clothes and souvenirs and lots of food. we got gyros and crepes, yummy. it was crazy on the street, but really cool to see blocks of booths down 7th avenue. we wanted to see another show, but since it was memorial sunday, there weren't many shows going on and those that were were sold out. we went to so many theaters trying to get tickets. we really wanted to see "cabaret" at studio 54, because it had jane leeves (daphne from frasier) and john stamos (uncle jesse from full house!), but of course, we couldn't get in. instead, we went to see the importance of being earnest at the paris theater by the plaza. before that, we walked through central park and sat on some of the rocks for a while. it's so nice to have a lot of greenery and water in the middle of this busy city. i love how there are so many different parts to new york. i can't wait to go back!
today, i got up at 4:30 and flew back here. we had a star wars movie marathon today, since we have nothing else to do. the only other thing going on was a barbeque in the field by allison. it's been an extremely lazy day. but great. i don't want to go back to classes. i hope you all had as good of a weekend as i did!
