i just spent two and a half hours with garry marshall! he talked to our film class, answered our questions, and gave some inside scoop on pretty woman, hollywood, etc. he's really funny because he started off as a writer for sitcoms, and he made us laugh a lot, i wish i could remember one of his really good quotes. i do remember this story he told us about when he was filming the princess diaries, which whitney houston produced and julie andrews starred in. it was his birthday, and whitney and julie sang "happy birthday" to him! he said, "oliver stone just has four guys with guns going, 'happy birthday to you...,' and jerry bruckheimer has all this dynamite blowing up for 'have a dynamite birthday,' but i've got whitney houston and julie andrews singing to me!" his life is surreal. oh, and when he was filming a nude scene from pretty woman, this vein was popping out of julia roberts's forehead because she was so nervous. so all of them are in the bed, including garry marshall, who is trying to push in this vein that's sticking out as they're trying to shoot. he's a really funny guy. and he went to northwestern. we had a lot of celebrities come out of the school of speech here, including julia louis-dreyfuss, charlton heston, david schwimmer, and some others that i can't remember right now. so hopefully, if i'm not one of those famous alumni (which, let's face it, is most likely), then i might at least know one!
