yay for ny! this weekend was great!
on friday, we left at 7 in the morning (yuck, i haven't gotten up that early since high school) so we could spend some time in nyc in the afternoon. we stayed at the plaza, which is right near central park and 5th avenue, and it's the hotel from the eloise books! we didn't do much damage shopping that day, we just walked along 3rd and 5th and admired all the expensive but pretty things.
on saturday, mv and i went to soho, which is my favorite part of new york. shopping was great, especially since mv payed for everything as part of my christmas present. but i was careful not to go overboard, even though there are so many cool things there! we went to this store called "mavi jeans," where the guys in there can just look at you and know your size, and they just throw pants at you to try on, and it all looks great. i would have never thought about buying red cords until they gave me a pair to try on.
that night, we went to this great restaurant called tao, which my sis was excited about since they filmed an episode of "sex and the city" there. then we finally saw "rent"! it was really cool, though some of the "rent-heads" there were a little crazy and annoying. but the music was so awesome, i love the rock-feel, and the actors' voices were amazing. i can't believe they can sing like that every night without busting their vocal cords.
sunday morning, i was complaining about not seeing any celebrities, and then we saw two at breakfast in about five minutes! we were eating at the mercer kitchen, which is part of this famous hotel in soho, and my mom said (very loudly), "oh, it's ellen!" ellen degeneres was right next to our table on her way out, and it was really cool but embarrassing because my mom had been so obvious. my sis was unsuccessfully trying to hide out of embarrassment, and i started laughing and then choking on my food. but she was about four feet away from me! then, while we were getting over that, my mom said, "that guy over there looks familiar too..." and i looked and said "it's kiefer sutherland!" then we stared/whispered/laughed/choked all over again and we watched him and his possible-girlfriend walk out onto the street. then, later, we saw him again when we were walking around! we did a little more shopping in soho with my parents (read about the prada store on mv's blog) and then went home that afternoon. it was a really fun trip. i love new york!
i'm going to chippy's for new year's, so i'd better get ready. i hope you all have a blast partying tonight! happy new year!
