ok, so here's the update on this weekend... to make a long story short, the trip was great, the travelling was not...
so meg and i went by train to south bend, and when we got there, i got to meet her friends and see some jefferson people! meg doesn't tell people when she drops by, so our jefferson-friends (pat mccarthy, tom lauducci, and michael klein) were a little shocked when they saw me. but it was fun, even though i didn't hang out with them much in high school. then we went to see the royal tenenbaums, which we didn't really get, but i think that's because we were looking for symbolism and hidden meaning when we should have just been watching it for fun. i need to see it again. then we hung out with more of meg's friends, including "hot terry" who has a boston accent : ) and after that, i was pretty tired, so we went to bed, and i got to sleep on meg's futon, which is really comfortable. they're allowed to loft their beds at notre dame, so they can do so many more fun things with their rooms. but, a negative thing about notre dame dorms is that they're all single-sex, and the parietal hours (when students can't be in the opposite-sex dorms) are strictly enforced, which is weird for me since we all live in coed dorms. it's a very different experience, since socializing with the opposite sex is harder to do.
anyway, this morning i went to my first mass ever, to hear meg sing in the choir. it was nice, and not so weird since meg's friend janel helped me know what was going on. and by the way, the choir was great, meg! then we ate in their really awesome dining hall and i got ready to leave. now here comes the bad part... so, meg called a cab for me since she had to go to her choir concert, but the cab picked me up half an hour late (stupid universal cab company, don't use them). i then had ten minutes to get to the train station and get on the train. we pulled up to the train station, and the train was still there, but as soon as i got out of the cab, the train pulled away (FRICK!). i was so mad, because i then had to wait for two hours for the next train and i wasn't sure if i would make it home in time for my alpha chi initiation. agh, i was so upset. but i finally got the train, and got back to chicago, and of course, the el system is something-that-i-will-not-name-here-since-some-people-might-get-offended. but anyway, i had to transfer a bunch of times and wait in the freezing cold for who know how long (it was in the single-digits today!)! by the time i got to evanston, i couldn't feel my feet (seriously) and i was in horrible pain that i've never felt before from the cold. i ran back to the dorm, jumped into a hot shower (which felt like i was on fire) and got ready for initiation in record time. amazingly, i made it, but the hot shower made my feet swell up and it had a hard time putting my feet in my shoes and walking. the swelling has still not totally gone down. but i'm here now, and relieved, and now an official alpha chi omega sister! now i have to do work, since i didn't do any of it this weekend... i hope all of you had a good weekend and didn't have to go through a trauma like mine!
